Model Britain is committed to creating an inclusive experience — through our digital presence today and in the development of the future Model Britain destination.
Our commitment to accessibility
We want Model Britain to be welcoming, inclusive and accessible to as many people as possible. Accessibility is therefore being considered both in the continued development of our website and as an important principle in the design and planning of the future visitor destination.
Accessibility of this website
We are working to make the Model Britain website accessible and usable for the widest possible audience, including people who use assistive technologies or alternative methods of navigating digital content.
As the website continues to develop, we aim to follow recognised accessibility good practice and to align our digital content, where reasonably practicable, with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.
This includes consideration of:

- Keyboard accessibility wherever practicable.
- Appropriate colour contrast and readable typography.
- Alternative text for meaningful images where appropriate.

The Model Britain website is evolving alongside the wider project. We do not currently claim that every page, document or third-party component fully conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
Model Britain is in development
Model Britain is currently being developed as a major visitor destination and is not yet open to the public.
References on this website to the future attraction, visitor experience, facilities or services should therefore be understood within the context of an evolving project. Detailed design, planning, construction and operational policies remain subject to further development and approval.
Important
Accessibility features, visitor assistance arrangements and admission policies for the future attraction have not yet been finalised. We will publish detailed accessibility information before Model Britain opens.
Designing an accessible destination
Accessibility is intended to form part of the design and development thinking for the future Model Britain destination.
As the project progresses through detailed design and operational planning, areas being considered include:
Accessible Movement
Considering step-free movement, circulation routes and accessible navigation throughout the future visitor environment.
Inclusive Facilities
Considering accessible visitor facilities as part of the detailed architectural and operational design process.
Sensory Consideration
Considering the needs of visitors with sensory sensitivities within experience and operational planning.
Communication
Considering clear signage, interpretation and appropriate communication support across the future attraction.
Inclusive Learning
Considering accessibility and different learning needs within future educational programmes and interpretation.
Visitor Support
Developing appropriate visitor assistance and accessibility policies as operational planning progresses.
Specific facilities and services will be confirmed as the project moves through detailed design and operational development. Information published before opening will reflect the facilities and policies ultimately adopted.
Known limitations
We recognise that some parts of the website may not yet provide the level of accessibility we would ultimately like to achieve.
Potential limitations may include:
- Older documents or PDF files created before current accessibility practices were adopted.
- Third-party services, embedded content or integrations over which Model Britain does not have complete technical control.
- Certain concept drawings, plans, maps or detailed visual material where providing an equivalent textual representation may be difficult.
- Legacy website content that is being reviewed as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the site.
We intend to review these areas as the website continues to develop and make improvements where reasonably practicable.
